The Sodbury and District Historical Society
| The Sodbury and District Historical Society was formed in 1976
with the objective of increasing the awareness of the heritage of
the area and, to foster an interest in a wide range of local
history. Monthly lecture meetings are held on the second Friday of each month between September and May and, during the summer months, outside visits to areas of interest are organized. Occasional exhibitions are arranged in support of specific events using data from the Society archives and from members own artefacts. Whilst the Society does not undertake major research projects, a number of members are active on their own research activities. The Society is one of the larger local history groups in the area with a membership of approximately 170. This number is restricted owing to the size of available meeting rooms, and the Society has a waiting list to join. |
The Society is able to offer guided walks in the area and can
provide illustrated talks on various aspects of the history of
Chipping Sodbury and the neighbouring town of Yate. For further information, to join the society, or to make arrangements for guided walks around the medieval town or the locality, or talks/ slide shows, contact: The Secretary, Ken Dyer 01454 314674 or The Chairman, Jim Elsworth 01454 318831
